My Favourite Photography Tools that I currently can’t live without

As a photographer, the tools I use play a significant role in shaping my work. Over time, I’ve come to rely on a few key pieces of equipment that have not only enhanced my photography but also made the process more enjoyable. Here’s a closer look at my favorite photography tools and why they’ve earned a special place in my kit.

Tiffen Glimmer Glass

The Tiffen Glimmer Glass is a fantastic tool that subtly softens the images, taking off the edge without compromising the overall quality. It’s like a magic wand that adds a touch of softness to the images, making them look more natural and less harsh. And a word of advice - don’t smudge Vaseline on a UV lens. It’s annoying to get off and looks quite unprofessional. The Tiffen Glimmer Glass is a much better choice.

Godox V1

The Godox V1 is an affordable alternative to the Profoto A1X, but it still packs a powerful punch at 76W. It’s a powerhouse for the price that makes the Profoto seem like an illogical choice. Yes, it’s so powerful that you might end up blinding and scaring people if you’re not careful. But if power is what you’re after, the Godox V1 won’t disappoint.

Fujifilm XH1 with the XF16-55 F/2.8

The Fujifilm XH1 with the XF16-55 2.8 lens is my bread and butter. I do basically everything with this camera. It got discontinued quite early in the production cycle for the XT3 or XT4, but I’ve fooled people into thinking that this camera is a full frame. The colors it produces from JPEGs alone are amazing. It leans towards red, which is great for skin tones in RAW editing.

Blackrapid RS1

I believe it’s the RS1. Get a proper camera strap - not for the neck, it’s not the neck’s job to support your camera, that’s for your head! There are others I would also recommend, like the Peak Design Camera Straps, but I wanted to have my camera upside down so I could grab it from my waist as it hangs. Your shoulder will hurt for a while when using this, but after months of use, the body adapts and gets stronger.

These are just a few of the tools that have shaped my journey as a photographer. Each one has its unique features and benefits, and together, they make the process of capturing images a truly enjoyable experience.
